The short version
BufferUp does not run advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, or cross-site profiling. The browser storage we use is what the product needs to keep you signed in and to remember your display preferences.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for BufferUp to work. Disabling them will sign you out and prevent the application from functioning.
- Session cookies (Clerk). Set by our authentication provider to keep you signed in, identify your active organization, and protect against session hijacking and cross-site request forgery.
- Security and routing cookies. Set by our hosting platform to route your request correctly and to protect the service from abuse.
Preference storage
BufferUp stores a small number of display preferences in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie. This data never leaves your device and is never sent to our servers.
- Theme. Your light or dark mode choice, so the interface does not flash the wrong theme when a page loads.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes these preferences. BufferUp falls back to your operating system’s appearance setting.
What we do not use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No third-party analytics that profile you across other websites.
- No sale or sharing of browsing data with data brokers.
Cookies set by connected platforms
When you connect a social channel, that platform’s own authorization page runs in your browser and may set its own cookies under its own domain. Those cookies are governed by that platform’s cookie policy, not this one. BufferUp cannot read them.
Controlling cookies
Every major browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies in its settings. Because BufferUp’s cookies are strictly necessary, blocking them will prevent you from signing in. If you no longer want to use BufferUp, see our Data Deletion page.
